The Healing Power of Food: Why We Love Haskap Berries

The Healing Power of Food: Why We Love Haskap Berries

Lianna Brook

At The Farmer’s Kitchen, we believe food should nourish, restore, and reconnect us to the land. That’s why haskap berries hold such a special place in our hearts. Grown just minutes away at Oak Knoll Farm, these small but mighty berries show just how powerful local food can be.

On two acres of our regenerative orchard, nearly 2,000 haskap bushes thrive—producing thousands of kilograms of nutrient-dense berries each year. And while they’re delicious, the real magic lies in their incredible health benefits.

A Small Berry With Big Benefits

Haskaps (also known as honeyberries) are one of the most nutrient-packed fruits you’ll find:

  • Up to 3x the antioxidants of blueberries to support brain, heart, and cellular health

  • Nearly half your daily Vitamin C in just 100g

  • Naturally high fiber, low sugar to support gut and blood-sugar balance

  • Anti-inflammatory properties that make them a perfect choice for cold and flu season

They’re the definition of food as medicine—grown right here at home.

Surprisingly Delicious

Haskaps have a flavour unlike any other fruit: a mix of blueberry, raspberry, and black currant with a bright, tart finish. That depth makes them as versatile as they are nutritious. You’ll find them in:

  • Scones

  • Sauces and glazes

  • Cocktails and syrups

  • Jams, smoothies, and more

They’re a local alternative to imported superfruits like açaí or goji—without the travel miles.

Eat Local, Feel Good

Our haskaps are hand-harvested, frozen at peak ripeness, and brought directly to The Farmer’s Kitchen—so their nutrients and flavour stay vibrant all winter.

Frozen haskap berries are available in store, ready for smoothies, sauces, or a simple wellness tea.
